The Ultimate Summer Camping Checklist
Now that we can already feel the summer’s heat, you could already be planning your next getaway. Let’s face it: planning a beach getaway or a weekend hike could either be too expensive, too tiring. These quick vacation ideas can also be a hassle since almost everyone from Metro Manila will be out there basking under the sun.
If you think that the usual summer destinations won’t cut it because there’s just too many people taking their own dose of fresh air and vitamin-sea, outdoor camping might just be up your alley. With camping sites sprouting around the Metro, camping is in fact very easy to do. You just have to bring your essentials and make sure you enjoy the time with your friends and family.
However, those new to camping might find themselves off-guard and unprepared, so we came up with the Ultimate Summer Camping Checklist to help you pack everything you’ll need.
Stay cool under the sun
Camping outdoors certainly requires staying under the heat of the sun for a long duration. In order to keep your body cool and prevent having a heat stroke, be sure to bring these essentials:
- Hat/scarf, to keep your head cool
- Sunglasses, to protect your eyes
- A light, long sleeve shirt, to keep your arms from getting sunburnt
- Sunscreen, for an added layer of skin protection from the sun
Stay fresh even in hot weather
When camping and doing outdoor activities in a tropical country like the Philippines, expect to sweat a lot and feel hot. Not to mention that humidity levels can get really high and make your skin feel sticky. Make sure you have these items with you to stay fresh even in hot weather:
- Change of clothes, to use when you get soaking wet
- A face towel or two, to wipe your face and other body areas off of sweat
- Water spritzer, in case you really need to cool down quickly
- Reusable water bottle, so you can stay well-hydrated without throwing too much bottles
Be prepared for outdoor activities
A camping will not be complete without outdoor activities. Make sure to check the activities available around your campsite first to know what to prepare for, and don’t forget to bring basic gears that will make it more convenient for you to stay active:
- Rubber shoes, so you’re always ready to get moving
- Comfortable outdoor shorts and pants, so you can stay active without worrying about your clothes
- Athletic support (jock strap for boys, sports bra for girls), so you can really move without hesitation
- Swimwear, in case there’s a need to swim
- Googles, for an added eye protection when swimming
Hygiene items to keep yourself clean
Since camping outdoors comes with some rigorous-yet-fun activities, getting dirty and sweaty is a certainty. Which is why it’s important to bring hygiene essentials to keep your body clean:
- A deodorant, just a precaution to fight foul odor
- Shower essentials such as soap, shampoo, and conditioner
- A mini shower caddy, to keep your essentials organized
- A wash cloth, to scrub your body off dirt during bath time
- Hairbrush/comb, to stay looking nice after taking a bath
- Your toothbrush and a toothpaste, for a fresh breath
- Feminine hygiene products
Extra clothes
Just in case you forget, it’s important to bring extra clothes as well!
- Extra shirt
- Spare underwear
- Extra shorts/pants
- Socks
- Slippers
Get comfy for sleep
After a day of activities, camping outdoors will require some items to make you comfortable and warm at night. Make sure to bring these extra items for your convenience:
- Extra blanket, which can serve as additional pillow
- Long sleeves and jogging pants for sleep, to fend off insects while asleep
- Mosquito repellent, as an additional measure to fend off mosquitoes
- Bedding bags, as a back-up
- Flashlight/portable night light, to help you see at night
Other items you might want to bring
If you think you’ll have some extra time during your camping trip, you might want to bring some stuff to keep you busy and to make your trip more enjoyable:
- A portable radio
- A book
- Playing cards
Must-haves!
Last but not the least, these are camping essentials that should always be with you on your outdoor camping trip:
- First aid kit, when there are emergencies
- Medications, if in case you’re taking certain meds
- Snacks, to keep you full throughout your trip
- Raincoat/umbrella, if in case it rains
