Checklist: First Aid Medical Kit for Team Building Participants

Building a successful team takes a lot of hard work, it requires people to work together to reach a common goal. While company events such as team building activities can achieve positive results like increased productivity and teamwork, these events should be well-prepared for. After all, it’s essential to give a safe, and memorable event for everyone to enjoy.

The Most Common Causes of Teambuilding Injuries

  • Tiredness/Overwork
  • Trips
  • Slips
  • Stress
  • Collisions
  • Lifting
  • Repetitive Actions
  • Falling Objects
  • Violence

Being out there and exposed to a fun, new and exciting environment many employees disregard their safety. More often than not, they tend to let go of inhibitions. As a result, they’re less cautious and tend to overexert themselves. By pushing it too hard, they become liable to hurt themselves and others.

First Aid Medical Kit Checklist

As much as team building activities are fun, they’re also physically demanding. Accidents are unavoidable, and to be on the safe side, it helps to prepare your first aid emergency kit ahead of time. Though Quest Adventure Camp has invested in their employee’s first aid training and emergency response team, it’s essential that team building participants are ready on their own during the said event.

Here are our first aid kit recommendations:

Plasters and Bandages

Bandages and plasters are essential as they cover wounds, gushes, abrasions incurred and are helpful in controlling the wound and bleeding. Active participants can get injured while participating in physical activities.

Gauze Pads

Sterile gauze dressings in different sizes can be a great alternative when there are no plasters available. Gauze pads and wraps are usually used to cover minor scrapes and cuts and are an essential item that should be included in your first aid kit during team building activities.

It’s worth noting that while some wounds can be covered with gauze, others should be left uncovered such as a small injury with only a minimal amount of bleeding, as it heals quickly. However, a cut on a body part that is often used a lot, such as the hand, should be bandaged with gauze to prevent the formation of scabs.

Anti-bacterial Ointments

An anti-bacterial ointment’s primary function is to remove the bacteria from the wound. For instance, a participant gets wounded in a sports-related activity, anti-bacterial ointments are used to treat infected wounds and even burns.

Antiseptic Wipes

Antiseptic wipes usually kill germs and help sanitize the skin on whatever surface it is applied. Disinfectant wipes should be a mainstay in your first-aid kit since they help clean out wounds, such as minor injuries like scrapes, cuts, and abrasions.

They can also be used to minor burns before applying a bandage. During emergencies where you don’t have access to clean water and soap, antiseptic wipes can be a perfect alternative.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide is another is another form of antiseptic used to treat minor injuries like scrapes, burns, and cuts. It usually releases oxygen to the affected area, which in turn, caused foaming to clean the wound and removes the dead skin in it. So if someone gets wounded during an activity, it’s ideal to wash it first with hydrogen peroxide before sealing it with gauze or bandage.

Disposable Gloves

A first aider’s health and safety are also given top priority by adequately protecting themselves. Minimizing risk is vital, and first-aiders must protect themselves from cross-contamination that may occur upon contact of bodily fluids such as urine, vomit, blood, or feces. Body fluids can carry infections and diseases such as HIV and hepatitis.

Sterile Saline Solution

A sterile saline solution is used to clean minor cuts and grazes and also flushes out small debris from the eyes. When going outdoors, it’s relatively unavoidable for dust and other foreign objects to penetrate in the eyes, and can affect the vision temporarily.

Antihistamines

Antihistamines provide relief from allergy symptoms. Moreover, they provide temporary relief from symptoms that are caused by flu, the common cold, and other respiratory illnesses such as bronchitis and sinusitis. Antihistamines prevent a runny nose, itchy, watery eyes and sneezing, which may occur when a person has allergies or is exposed to various elements outdoors during the event.

First Aid Cards

Emergencies can happen anytime, and it always helps to be prepared no matter what situation. Have them list their current medical conditions, a list of allergies and medicines, as well as other health and safety concerns.

Have every employee write down all emergency information in a first aid card before the activity, as it can make a significant difference especially in saving lives.
